Economic Sabotage: Senate Invites Dangote, NNPCL, CBN Others

The Senate has announced plans to summon the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria Port Authority (NPA), Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Dangote Group, and Minister of State for Petroleum, Heineken Lokpobiri, among others, to testify about alleged economic sabotage in the country’s petroleum industry.

The Senate Leader and Chairman of the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on “Alleged Economic Sabotage in the Nigerian Petroleum Industry” announced this at a media briefing on Thursday.

The chairman revealed that the 14-member committee formed on July 23 would look into billions of euros spent on turnaround maintenance at state-owned refineries over the last decade to solve deep-seated sector concerns.

The contractors in charge of the refineries’ turnaround maintenance are slated to attend a public hearing on September 10 as the ad-hoc committee prepares to visit Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Warri to meet with major petroleum industry players.

In separate statements, committee members vowed to undo the sector’s rot, vowing that business as usual would no longer be acceptable. The committee believes there is no tolerance for sacred cows and is prepared to issue an arrest warrant for any agency head who refuses to appear.
