The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has established a 12-member committee to retrieve government vehicles reportedly unaccounted for during the tenure of his predecessor, former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
At the committee’s inauguration on Friday, Governor Okpebholo tasked its members with locating and reclaiming all vehicles within two weeks. He emphasised the importance of ensuring that any government property in private possession is returned to the state.
The committee’s chairman, Kelly Okungbowa, pledged a thorough and lawful approach to the assignment. He highlighted the extent of the issue, revealing that numerous government vehicles are still in private hands despite the conclusion of the previous administration.
“A lot of vehicles used by the past administration are missing as those in custody of the vehicles have refused to return it. The governor deemed it fit to inaugurate us today (Friday) with a mandate to recover all government vehicles in private hands,” Okungbowa explained.
He further revealed that the committee comprises representatives from across the state’s three senatorial districts to ensure a comprehensive recovery effort. The vice-chairman of the committee is Rt. Hon. Victor Edoror, a former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly.
“I am the chairman while my vice is the former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly EDHA, Rt. Hon. Victor Edoror. We have our members across the three senatorial districts in Edo State and we are ready to do the job, abiding by the law,” he said.
Okungbowa appealed to members of the public to assist the committee by providing information about individuals who may still be holding onto government vehicles. He assured that the committee would abide by legal standards throughout the recovery process.
