Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has tendered an unreserved apology for the sudden closure of schools, which was announced Monday, sparking an outrage among Kenyans.
The CS on Wednesday, said he had taken full responsibility for the abrupt decision that took parents and teachers unawares, thereby affecting plans that were originally set in motion.
During the announcement on Monday, Prof Magoha had stated in detail, that the decision was taken in the best interest of Kenyans, as it would afford a peaceful, free and fair elections coming up in six days’ time.
“I know that people are unhappy that the schools were closed abruptly. Let me apologise on behalf of the Government.
“As I take full responsibility. Please try to understand that I love the children and I will be the last person to put their lives at risk,” Magoha said in Eldoret.
Magoha also revealed that he had received a lot of backlash from Kenyans, following the announcement enraged everyone, especially parents and teachers.
Most parents complained that they were not prepared for the sudden closing of schools, and expressed concerns for the inconveniences they would have to face due to lack of prior information on the issue.
