The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) engaged its stakeholders in a road walk early Thursday to mark the 2024 African Union Anti-Corruption Day.

The walk, led by agency’s Chairman Ola Olukoyede, focused on the theme “Effective Whistleblowing for Corruption-Free Nigeria.” Its goal was to highlight the importance of whistleblowing in preventing corruption in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Whistleblowing Policy, launched on December 21, 2016, encourages people to report fraud, bribery, stolen government funds, financial misconduct, abuse, and other forms of corruption to the government.

The road walk started at the agency’s Abuja Zonal Command and ended at Unity Fountain near Transcorp Hilton.

News Central reports that the African Union Anti-Corruption Day, celebrated annually on July 11, aims to combat corruption across the continent.

This year’s theme, “Effective Whistleblowers Protection Mechanism: A Critical Tool in the Fight Against Corruption,” emphasises the importance of protecting whistleblowers.
