The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned Wahab and Raheem Okoya, sons of billionaire businessman Chief Razaq Okoya, for questioning over alleged naira abuse.
The brothers are expected to appear at the EFCC’s Lagos office on Monday.
This follows a video showing the duo flaunting and spraying bundles of N1,000 notes in a promotional clip for Raheem’s new song, Credit Alert. Dressed in white agbadas, they danced as a mobile policeman held stacks of crisp Naira notes, which they threw into the air.
The act, perceived as disregard for the law, drew widespread criticism on social media, with many questioning whether their father’s influence would shield them from accountability.
The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that the officer seen in the video has been identified and detained.
On Saturday, The Cable reported that the EFCC, in a letter signed by Acting Director of the Lagos Directorate, Michael Wetkas, directed the Okoya brothers to report to its Special Operations Team on Awolowo Road by 10 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025.
Raheem later issued a public apology via X, stating, “To the Nigerian people, my actions were not intended to cause any trouble or harm. My intentions were pure and naive… I wasn’t fully aware of the consequences of my action.”
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the invitation, stating, “Yes, they have been invited.”
