The National Coordinator of the National AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, and STIs Control Programme (NASCP), Dr Adebobola Bashorun, has highlighted the positive outcomes achieved in the fight against HIV/AIDS and STIs through collaborative efforts with the global community.
He emphasised that various response mechanisms have been implemented to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS and ensure that people living with HIV (PLHIV) receive high-quality services.
Reports indicate that the Nigerian government has benefited significantly from initiatives such as the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the Global Fund, AHF, and other stakeholders.
In a statement, Bashorun mentioned that NASCP has been actively monitoring and supervising HIV service delivery points across 15 states, including the FCT, to establish a sustainable system. A grant from the Global Fund, specifically designated for combating HIV and Tuberculosis, facilitated the procurement of 72 Toyota Hilux vans and laboratory diagnostic equipment.
He disclosed that, with this support, NASCP has achieved significant milestones toward controlling the HIV epidemic. Additionally, he announced the launch of the Early Infant Diagnosis (EID) Optimization Toolkit in collaboration with the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF). This toolkit not only addresses EID program indicators but also enhances overall care for mothers, infants, and families in HIV epidemic control efforts.
