Egypt has named Ehab Galal as the Pharaohs’ next national coach, following the exit of Carlos Queiroz.

Galal, 54, has been in charge of the big-spending Pyramids since September, bringing them to the Caf Confederation Cup quarter-finals.

Queiroz only joined Egypt in September of last year, but he and the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) split company after the team failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup last month.

The North Africans were denied a place in Qatar after losing on penalties to Senegal, who had previously defeated them on penalties in the Africa Cup of Nations final in February.

Pyramids are now third in the Egyptian league, and Galal will captain the team in their two-legged Confederation Cup tie against TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which will be played this Sunday and on April 24.

Zamalek, El Masry, El Makkasa, Ismaily, and Al Ahly Tripoli are among the clubs he has previously managed.

Seven-time world record holder Egypt is awaiting the 2023 Nations Cup qualifying group draw, which will be held on Tuesday, April 19th.

Galal was the manager of El Makkasa for three seasons of 2014–2017, he also used to manage Enppi and Zamalek clubs during the 2017–18 Egyptian Premier League season. In 2018, he managed El Masry until 2020, then he coached El Makkasa for six months in the same year.
