Egypt‘s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation El Sayed El Quseir announced on Thursday approving India to import wheat according to a report raised by head of the Central Administration of Plant Quarantine Ahmed el Attar.

The ministry stated in a press statement that this is part of the government’s attempts to establish new and secure sources of wheat imports.

Earlier, a group led by Islam Farahat, Agricultural Specialist and Plant Quarantine Inspector at the Ministry of Agriculture’s Central Administration of Plant Quarantine, traveled to India to resume technical studies needed to import wheat from India.

According to Farahat, the team discussed ways to strengthen ties in the field of enabling the export of Egyptian agricultural products to India with Indian officials.

Meanwhile, Stordalen stated that she shares the agricultural minister’s viewpoints, which include assisting developing and African countries’ efforts to adapt to climate change and creating a climate financing platform.

The two parties agreed to draft a memorandum of understanding to support the Egyptian agricultural ministry’s emerging farmers initiative and projects supporting small farmers in rural areas.
