Egypt Expresses Concern Regarding Escalation of Airstrikes in Yemen

Egypt has officially voiced its concern about the escalating military operations in the Red Sea region and airstrikes within Yemen.

In a statement released by the Foreign Ministry, Egypt expressed the need for concerted efforts to decrease tension and instability in the region, emphasising the importance of ensuring the security of navigation in the Red Sea. The statement also issued a warning, stating that the unfolding developments could potentially widen the conflict in the region.

The military strikes in Yemen, launched by the US and UK late Thursday in response to a series of Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, have raised significant global concern. The Houthi group claims to target Israeli-linked vessels as an act of solidarity with the people of Gaza, where Israeli attacks, particularly since the October 7 incident involving Hamas, have resulted in the deaths of over 23,700 Palestinians, causing widespread destruction and displacement.

The impact of these attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea has led to the rerouting of a substantial portion of trade passing through this vital maritime artery for goods and energy supplies. This, in turn, has caused delays in shipments and an increase in transport costs.
