The Egyptian Minister of Health, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, speaking at the 2nd Vaccine and Other Health Products Manufacturing Forum for African Union member states in Cairo, emphasised Egypt’s significant strides in public health and immunisation.
The Minister highlighted the nation’s successful eradication of polio and hepatitis C, a global first. He further underscored the challenges faced by African countries during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly regarding vaccine access and distribution delays.
Acknowledging these challenges, Egypt is actively pursuing the development of domestic COVID-19 vaccine manufacturing capabilities. This initiative aims to enhance vaccine accessibility and self-reliance within the African continent.

Furthermore, Egypt has demonstrated a commitment to developing innovative health products that meet international standards. The nation aims to integrate into the global health ecosystem by producing locally manufactured vaccines for diseases such as polio, COVID-19, and hepatitis C.
The Minister reiterated Egypt’s dedication to investing in large-scale health programmes and strengthening its healthcare system to provide robust and equitable healthcare access for all its citizens.
