Egypt is hosting the ‘Bright Star‘, a 21-country joint military drill on the Mohamed Naguib military base in Marsa Matrouh, after a one-year delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic
According to the the Egyptian military, The drill, which is one of the largest and most important world military exercises due to the large number of participating troops, will take place in Egypt starting September 2 until September 17.
Asides Egypt, other countries taking part in the jont military drill include the United States, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, France, Britain, Greece and Italy.
The Bright Star multinational military drill was launched in 1980 as part of the US-brokered peace treaty between Egypt and Israel.
It has been hosted by Egypt in cooperation with the US every two years.
It was designed to strengthen ties between the Egyptian Armed Forces and the United States Central Command and to enhance the ability of the Americans to reinforce their allies in the Middle East in case of war.
The drill, originally scheduled for September 2020, was suspended due to the raging Covid-19 pandemic.
The exercise begins with a team interoperability training to teach nations how to operate with one another in a wartime environment, then continues with a Command Post Exercise designed to help standardize command and control procedures, and then a large-scale Field Training Exercise to practice everything together.
