A final ruling upholding a death sentence for 21 suspected militants has been issued by Egypt’s highest civilian court on Thursday.
The defendants were convicted of belonging to Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis group, which changed its name to Sinai Province after pledging allegiance to the Islamic State militant group.
The militant men were found guilty of committing 54 “terrorist operations” across Egypt, including the killing of a senior police officer as well as trying to assassinate former interior minister Mohamed Ibrahim.
