Egypt Launches Africa’s 1st Green Flight

EgyptAir’s first environmentally-friendly test flight in Africa, led by Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Manar, departed Cairo International Airport on Saturday.

In line with the ministry’s strategy to promote sustainable development, the project will help to preserve the environment.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner which is carrying 219 passengers has flight number MS 799.

EgyptAir’s environmental first flight will be recorded in the history of the company as the first operated by an African airline, and it will coincide with the celebration of Egypt’s 92nd National Day of Aviation, which takes place on 26 January.

Manar explained that “the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s strategic plans in the field of environment come from the directives of Egyptian’s political leadership, which is very concerned about the environment and is involved in all international forums to combat climate change and keep up with Egypt’s 2030 Vision.”

He said, “The Ministry of Aviation plans to confront the effects of climate change through the presence of an integrated and sustainable environmental system that applies all local and international recommendations and legislation in the field of aviation-related to environmental protection and pollution reduction.”

EgyptAir’s plan aims to reduce the use of single-use plastic materials on its flights by 90% and replace them with environmentally friendly products.
