Egypt Slams Israeli Assault on West Bank Cities, Calls for International Action

Egypt has strongly condemned Israel’s military operation in northern West Bank cities that resulted in the deaths of 10 Palestinians. In a statement released on Wednesday, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry described the Israeli assaults on Palestinian civilians as “a continuation of systematic violations of international law, international humanitarian law and the four Geneva Conventions that protect the rights of people under occupation.”

The Egyptian government views these actions as a deliberate escalation, intensifying confrontations within Palestinian territories. The statement called for a unified international response to protect Palestinian civilians and end the targeting of unarmed individuals, property seizures, and other aggressive measures.

Egypt also warned of severe consequences from the ongoing Israeli operations, which it sees as a dangerous escalation of violence in the region.

The Israeli military bombardment in the northern West Bank, described as the largest in two decades, has intensified tensions across the Occupied West Bank. The latest figures from the Palestinian Health Ministry report at least ten Palestinian casualties since the operation began.

The escalation in the West Bank occurs against the backdrop of an ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza, which has killed over 40,500 people, mostly women and children, since October 7, 2023. In the Occupied West Bank, at least 660 Palestinians have been killed, and nearly 5,400 others injured, according to Palestinian sources.

This latest development comes after a landmark opinion from the International Court of Justice on July 19, which declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian land unlawful and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
