Egypt to host 2021 World Shooting Championship

The head of the Egyptian Shooting Federation Hazem Hosny has announced that the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) had approved Egypt’s proposal to the host 2021 World Shotgun Championship.

Hosny revealed that the competition will be held in February at the Shooting Club in the new administrative capital Wedian which has been under construction since 2015. Located 45 kilometers east of Cairo, the new city will become the new administrative and financial capital of Egypt, housing the main government departments and ministries, as well as foreign embassies.

Hosny added that the ISSF had also approved Egypt’s proposal to stage the Junior Shooting World Championships in 2023. He pointed out that such an announcement reflects the ISSF confidence in Egypt’s capability to host these competitions.

In a recent ISSF Executive Committee meeting, important issues for the new Olympic cycle were considered. The Executive Committee also approved the World Championships for 2021-2024 which will be spread across five continents, as well as the competition calendar for 2021.

21 Member Federations representing five continents applied for the right to host the 2021-2024 ISSF Championships.

An Evaluation Commission composed of representatives of nations that did not apply to host the World Championships or World Cups was formed to consider the applications. A group of experts analyzed all bids and prepared a report for the ISSF Executive Committee regarding compliance of the submitted applications with the requirements for organizing the ISSF Championships.

It was decided that the final tournament of the year 2021, with the participation of 12 best athletes in each individual Olympic discipline, would be held in the capital of Azerbaijan – Baku in the second half of October 2021.

The calendar for 2022 will be confirmed at the next Executive Committee meeting which is scheduled for the end of 2020. The organisers of the ISSF championships in 2023-2024 will be confirmed after voting on the Qualification system for Paris 2024 OG takes place.

Based on the analysis of competitions and current trends, the members of the Executive Committee approved the basic documents for the organisers of the Championships, World Cups and Grand Prix: The Host Federation Agreement and The Guidelines for the Organisers of the ISSF Championships.

In addition, changes were made to the Technical Rules, the formats for Team events in 10m Air Rifle, 10m Air Pistol, 50m Rifle 3 Positions, 25m Rapid Fire Pistol, 25m Pistol, Trap and Skeet were approved as well as Mixed Team events in 50m Rifle 3 Positions and 25m RFP. These events will be included in the ISSF Championships program from 2021. The new ISSF Ranking system, which will be implemented from next year, has been confirmed.

The members of the Executive Committee also discussed key issues in preparation for the Games in Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024.
