Egyptian Actor, Mohamed Abdel-Halim, Dies at 78

Egypt’s Syndicate of Acting Professions announced the sudden death of actor Mohammed Abdel-Halim over the weekend.

Born in 1943, Abdel-Halim played various supporting roles in Egyptian films and television series.

His first foray into the spotlight came in the 1970s, with roles in a series of Abdelrahman Al-Khamisi films, including ‘Flower of Violet’ (‘Zahrat Al-Banafseg’) in 1977.

Then, in 1980, he appeared in the television series ‘Tears in Bold Eyes’ directed by Yahya El-Alamy and starring Adel Emam.

He has appeared in numerous films over the past decades, sharing the screen with many renowned actors and working with many well-known directors.

In 2010, he starred in the highly popular TV series ‘Sheikh of the Arabs’, based on a man named Hammam Ibn Youssef who managed to unite the tribes under his command in Upper Egypt. Yehia El-Fakharany played the protagonist in the series.

Funeral services were held in the actor’s honour earlier today, and the date of the wake has not yet been announced.
