An Egyptian court has sentenced a 37-year-old English teacher to death by hanging for the torture and murder of three women earlier this year.
The South Cairo Criminal Court delivered its verdict after the Grand Mufti ratified the death sentence for Karim Salim, a popular social media figure with over 629,000 followers on TikTok.
Salim faced charges from the public prosecution for the murders, which involved drugging and sexually abusing his victims, both before and after their deaths, and recording videos of the gruesome acts.
A graduate of a U.S. university and holding American citizenship, Salim admitted to the charges during the investigation, providing details about the tools and quantities of drugs he used in the crimes.
He was referred to trial for charges including murder, drug possession, drug trafficking, and human trafficking. The murders took place on 15 November 2023, April 8, 2024, and May 15, 2024 in Cairo Governorate.
Although the court has issued its ruling, Salim has the right to appeal the sentence.
