A building in the Durban CBD is on fire, resulting in multiple casualties, according to provincial health officials at the scene.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established, however, the KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Robert McKenzie stated that eleven people were injured, while two of those injured had been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
According to Kyle van Reenen, a spokesperson for EMER-G-MED, a private medical emergency services provider, the fire at the China Mall was reported at 10 a.m. Durban time.
Van Reenen said paramedics saw people trapped in the building trying to escape the building by breaking windows and attempting to climb out, adding that they believed all occupants of the building had been rescued.
Firefighters are still combing the building for any other people who may be trapped in the facility.
