World indoor and outdoor pole vault champion Mondo Duplantis of Sweden, world 3000m steeplechase champion Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco, world 5000m champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway, and world 200m champion Noah Lyles of the United States are also on the list.

The five athletes, who represent five countries and three area associations, have excelled in a variety of athletic disciplines in 2022, including World Athletics Championships Oregon 22, World Athletics Indoor Championships Belgrade 22, one-day meeting circuits, and other international events.

The finalists were determined by a three-way voting process in which the World Athletics Council and World Athletics Family voted via email, while fans voted online via World Athletics social media platforms, where a record 1.3 million votes were cast.

The World Athletics Council’s vote counted for 50% of the final result, while the World Athletics Family’s vote and public votes each counted for 25%. The voting period ended on October 31.

The World Athlete of the Year will be named on December 5, 2022, at the World Athletics Awards.
