A Boeing jet operated by American Airlines caught fire after it landed at Denver International Airport in Colorado on Thursday, according to the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
According to local media sources, the airliner reported 172 passengers and six crew members on board.
All passengers were successfully evacuated from the aircraft, but 12 individuals were transported to hospitals for minor injuries, as stated by Denver International Airport in a post on the social media platform X.
Dramatic videos circulated widely on social media depicted thick smoke surrounding the aircraft on the ground close to the terminals, with passengers standing on a wing as emergency services arrived.
According to the FAA, the Boeing 737-800, which was travelling from Colorado to Dallas-Fort Worth, was diverted to Denver International Airport after the crew reported “engine vibrations.”
“After landing and while taxiing to the gate an engine caught fire and passengers evacuated the aircraft using the slides,” the FAA said in a statement.
This recent occurrence adds to ongoing safety concerns following several incidents and the efforts by US President Donald Trump’s administration to reduce costs at US aviation agencies.
