In countries like Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, and Uganda, these African women have broken barriers, shattered glass ceilings, and become beacons of inspiration for others. 

    We highlight a few extraordinary women from these countries and share their tales of grit, fortitude, and empowerment in order to inspire young African women.

    Nigeria: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala – Leading the Way in Global Economics

    Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a former finance minister and economist from Nigeria, made history by becoming the first woman and person of colour to head the World Trade Organisation (WTO). Through her leadership, Okonjo-Iweala encourages women who want to succeed in industries that have historically been dominated by men.

    Kenya: Wangari Maathai – Environmental Activism and Sustainable Development
