#EndSARS: Anonymous Hacks Nigeria’s EFCC, INEC Websites

Diezani Alison-Madueke’s case still on - EFCC

Anonymous – an online widely known for its various cyber attacks against several governments, corporations, and the Church of Scientology – has continued its solidarity with Nigeria’s #EndSARS protesters by hacking into two of the West African country’s government websites.

The group took down the websites of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

A cursory check showed that the EFCC website had been brought down completely while that of INEC opened but in the offline version.

“Official website of @officialEFCC has been taken down in support of #EndSARSProtest. CHECK HOST : https://check-host.net/check-report/df89d3bk838 TARGET : https://efccnigeria.org/efcc/ You should have expected us! #EndCorruptionInNigeria,” Anonymous said in a tweet.

The group had earlier taken over the Twitter account of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), using it to tweet supports for the Nigerian protesters.

It had also taken down the website of the Central bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Friday night but it was later restored.

The NBC had, in recent times, been criticised for imposing through its Broadcast Code which increased the fine for hate speech to N5m.

The #EndSARS protests have been taking place across major cities in the country with youths demanding an end to police brutality and killings.

Major highways across the country have been blocked thereby grounding economic activities.
