Several groups and rights activists are gathering across locations in Lagos to commemorate the second anniversary of 2020 #EndSARS nationwide protests in Nigeria.
The activists are planning to gather at Lekki tollgate, the epicentre of the #EndSARS protests in Lagos.
The Lekki tollgate had youths airing their concerns day and night until they were dispersed by soldiers of the Nigerian Army on October 20. This year, the memorialisers have slated for 8am-11am Thursday for the remembrance.
The #EndSARS protest was a public outcry for an end to police brutality, abuse of power, extrajudicial killings and extortion, especially by officers of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
News Central gathered that groups have been mobilising online via social media platforms for a car procession to coincide with the Lekki Tollgate incident.
The Lagos State Police Command is yet to react to plans for the rally but it is expected to draft a squad of anti-riot police officers to various locations in the state to forestall breakdown of law and order.
