Dr Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for the Builsa South constituency in Ghana, has urged health professionals in the country to tackle the detrimental impact of energy drinks on kidney health.
Apaak cautioned that the persistent consumption and misuse of beverages available in local markets could fuel the rise in kidney diseases among young people. He also highlighted the lack of awareness regarding the dangers associated with excessive consumption of energy drinks, noting that many individuals consume these products without understanding the health risks they present.
“We need to conscientise efforts, from both the health perspective and that of lawmakers, to address this pressing issue,” he stressed.
Working towards the establishment of a Dialysis Centre at the Upper East Regional Hospital, Dr Apaak gave a generous donation of GHS 5,000.00; a gesture targeted at easing the burden of kidney disease management in the region, providing succour for those in need.
Expressing gratitude for the donation, Dr. Emmanuel Akatibo, a Physician Assistant and advocate for the Dialysis Centre initiative, underscored the importance of the contribution in establishing the dialysis centre. He pledged to ensure the effective utilisation of the funds.
Akatibo is also committed to leading advocacy campaigns aimed at raising awareness among the public about the significance of kidney health. He highlighted the crucial role of early detection in reducing the prevalence of kidney diseases.
