Nigeria’s need to ensure a safer environment has been further highlighted by visiting fellows of the Climate Impact Research Capacity and Leadership Enhancement (CIRCLE) particularly as regards the need for collaborations and partnerships for better environments.
Dr Clara Ifeanyi-Obi, the Coordinator Nigerian CIRCLE Visiting Forum (CVF), noted that researches on climate change issues are spread over different areas of specialisation ranging from agriculture, engineering, entrepreneurship, gender, medicals to many other speciality areas, commanding over a thousand citations from only climate change research.
The CVF Nigeria Coordinator noted that the Forum could achieve more if government and industry partners gave the needed support in the form of Partnerships and collaborations which are key to meaningful achievements.
There is a need to upscale climate-smart innovations and management practices. Facilitating the upscaling of some simple, cost effective, accessible and easy to use climate innovations will help in building climate resilience and reducing emissions in the country.
As the Nigerian CVF Forum positions to take giant strides in maintaining safe environment, all key stakeholders are implored to partner with the Climate Impact Research Capacity and Leadership Enhancement on this near-herculean task.
Such a mission can only be made possible when the right partners collaborate with a unified vision.
In his address, the Acting Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Prof. Adebola Ekanola, represented by Prof. Jonathan Babalola, Provost of the Postgraduate College, noted that Nigeria, like other countries of the world, is seriously affected by the problem of climate change.
And the effects are most felt on food security, full access to energy and high unemployment, among others.
Ekanola pointed out that strengthening the involvement of this stakeholder, within the overall context of advancing sustainable environment and socio-economic development, is critical.
