Nigeria’s sole representative on the continent, Enyimba defeated South African side, Orlando Pirates 1-0 to qualify for the quarterfinal of the CAF Confederations Cup.
The Nigerians left it late to sink a dagger through the South Africans who were resolute for large sections of the game.
A well-worked move from the right found Super Eagles winger, Anayo Iwuala who danced his way round the Pirates defence before playing a low cross. His cross was helped a bit by Tosin Omoyele’s flick before Cyril Olisema scored the all-important goal.
Enyimba with the victory led their group, tied on points with Pirates, but have emerged leaders on head to head.
Friday’s draws will pitch Enyimba, Pirates and six other teams who have made it to the next round.
Others are; Senegal’s AS Jaraaf, Pyramids of Egypt, Coton Sport Garoua of Cameroon, Algeria’s JS Kabylie, Raja Casablanca of Morocco, and CS Sfaxien of Tunisia.
Enyimba haven’t found success on the continent since winning the Champions League consecutively in 2003 and 2004.
