Eswatini Prime Minister, Ambrose Dlamini, Contracts Coronavirus

Eswatini Prime Minister Ambrose Dlamini has tested positive for Covid-19.

Dlamini, a business executive and the tenth Prime Minister of Eswatini, disclosed this on Sunday, adding that he was self-isolating at home.

He said that he was asymptomatic and was feeling well.

“I wish to inform the Nation that I have tested positive for COVID-19,” Dlamini said in a statement.

“I am asymptomatic and feeling well but in isolation, in line with health protocols, and being supported by the Ministry of Health medical personnel at home.

“I will continue working from home until I am cleared from the virus. All my close contacts for the past week are being tested and are expected to self-isolate and follow the necessary health guidelines.”

Dlamini urged his people to follow COVID-19 measures.

“May I take this opportunity to remind Emaswati the importance of adhering to all COVID-19 health guidelines at all times which include washing hands regularly with running water and soap or using a sanitiser, wearing a face mask in public and observing social distancing protocols,” he said.

“Avoid crowded places and ensure to only stay in properly ventilated spaces even when using public transport,” he instructed.

All the prime minister’s close contacts have been tested and are isolating.

The country on Sunday tested 384 samples out of which two were found to be positive, according to a statement from the health ministry.

So far, the kingdom has confirmed 119 COVID-19-related deaths and 6,095 infections, according to figures compiled by US-based Johns Hopkins University.
