Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, held discussions with his Malaysian counterpart on Saturday during his ongoing visit to the country.
After the talks in Putrajaya, Abiy informed journalists that both countries had agreed to enhance cooperation in various sectors such as agriculture, industry, and trade and investment.
“There are plenty of opportunities from both sides,” he said standing alongside Malaysian Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim.
“The discussion was very fruitful towards enhancing our cooperation in all sectors.”
Abiy arrived in Malaysia on Friday for a two-day visit to the country.
Anwar thanked Abiy for supporting Malaysia’s bid to join the BRICS bloc of developing countries, which recently wrapped up its summit in Russia. The alliance, originally made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa when it was established in 2009, has since grown to include Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.
Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Malaysia have officially submitted membership applications, while several other nations are interested in joining. Malaysia has been accepted into the organisation as a “partner country.”
