Ethiopia’s state-appointed rights commission on Monday, disclosed that it was investigating a video which displayed a group of fighters in Ethiopian army fatigues manhandling and firing at a boy believed to be from the conflict-affected Tigray region.
In the trending video, a group of uniformed men were seen surrounding the boy, as they taunted, kicked and stoned him severally, leaving him with a bloodied face. They then shot him in the stomach.
Although the identities of the men whose badges read “Ethiopian Army” are yet to be confirmed, investigations are on-going to unveil the culprits.
“We are trying to gather information on the distressing incident,” said Daniel Bekele, the head of the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC).
In the video, the boy, whose current situation is unknown, was accused of being from the Tigray. A region whose forces have been fighting the central government for nearly two years now.
The government of Ethiopia has said the perpetrators will be decisively dealt with, once investigations are concluded.
