Ethiopian Forces Kill 15 TPLF Members, Capture Others

Barely forty-eight hours after Sebhat Nega, a founding member of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) was captured by Ethiopian forces, fifteen other members have been killed according to state-run television.

The state broadcaster also claimed that Ethiopian forces have captured eight other members in the region.

Ethiopia and the TPLF fought in conflicts for almost a month, with over 2 million people displaced and hundreds of thousands killed.

While Ethiopia has since claimed victory, fighting is still happening in the northern part of the country where the TPLF has its stronghold.

The United Nations has asked for the provision of aids for the 2.3m people in Tigray in need.

Former Tigray Vice President and a former Minister of Finance between 2016 and 2018, Abraham Tekeste was also captured by the Ethiopian forces according to the state-run TV.

Current head of the TPLF, Gebremichael Debretsion and other members of the central committee are still at large in the region with the Ethiopian government placing a bounty on their heads.

The TPLF ruled Ethiopia for 27 years before Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed won in 2018. He has since made wholesale cabinet changes and has purged the national government of its Tigrayan domination.
