Ethiopia’s Tigray Forces Launch Rocket Attack, No Casualties Recorded

Tigrayan forces have on Friday fired a rocket into the city of Bahir Dar.

The rocket was launched into the city in the early hours of Friday, with the Amhara government revealing no casualty was recorded in the attack.

Ethiopian and Tigrayan forces have been battling over political differences, with deep ethnic divisions cited as a core reason behind the conflict.

Hundreds of lives have been lost, with at least 33,000 Ethiopians taking refuge in neighbouring Sudan since the violence started.

“The illegal TPLF group have launched a rocket attack around 1:40 a.m. in Bahir Dar,” the communications office of the Amhara government revealed via its official Facebook page on Friday.

“The rockets have caused no damage.”

Amhara is the most affected part of Ethiopia in the battle, due to the border it shares with northern Tigray.

The TPLF has since said the government of Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed is illegal after he postponed the nation’s elections over COVID-19.

The Tigrayan people ruled Ethiopia for 27 years before Ahmed became P.M and he’s been accused of witch-hunting TPLF members.

Recall that the Ethiopian P.M sacked the Army Chief, Deputy Chief and Foreign Minister in what was tagged a cabinet reshuffle.
