The European Union has called on Israel to halt its airstrikes on Gaza and allow the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid and electricity into the war-torn enclave.
In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, High Representative Kaja Kallas, UN Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Suica, and European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness, and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib condemned the resumption of hostilities and the loss of civilian lives, including children, in Israeli airstrikes.

The EU reiterated its demand for Israel to cease its military operations and for Hamas to release all hostages without delay.
It also urged Israeli authorities to show restraint and facilitate humanitarian relief efforts.
“We call on all parties to abide by their obligations under international humanitarian law,” the statement read.
The EU emphasised that diplomacy remains the only viable path forward, stressing that both Palestinians and Israelis have endured immense suffering over the past 18 months.
The statement underscored the need to break the cycle of violence, as stability is essential for Gaza’s reconstruction.
