President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office announced that Ukraine and the European Union will meet in a summit in Kyiv on February 3 to discuss financial and military help, but the organisation did not confirm the location on Tuesday.

In his first phone contact of the year, President Zelenskyy spoke with Ursula Von Der Leyen, President of the European Commission, about the specifics of the high-level gathering, the office stated in a statement on Monday.

“The parties discussed expected results of the next Ukraine-EU summit to be held on February 3 in Kyiv and agreed to intensify preparatory work,” the post-call statement said.

Zelenskyy and von der Leyen, in their call, also talked about the supply of “appropriate” weapons.

The Ukrainian president pushed for the first payment to be sent this month when they discussed a new 18 billion euro ($19 billion) financial support program for Ukraine, the statement said.

However, a representative for Charles Michel, the president of the European Council, was unable to confirm the location of the combined session on Tuesday.

He claimed that instead of the numerous presidents of EU nations, Michel and von der Leyen would represent the union at the meeting. Zelenskyy has a standing invitation to visit Brussels, according to EU officials.
