Creative Director at the Dunamis Event and President of Appoemn, Olufunbi Akinyosoye, has shared her opinion on the controversial topic of glamourous weddings and their impact on marriages in Nigeria.
Akinyosoye who appeared live on News Central TV’s Jasiri on Tuesday, February 13, said the notion that high-cost weddings are synonymous with marriage crashes is a myth. She said the type of marriage a couple chooses to have has nothing to do with the success of their union.
According to her, it all boils down to individual choices and the level of understanding they have with their partners.
“I am somewhere in-between a simple and a glamorous wedding. I love intimate weddings. But at the same time, some people like loud weddings. I believe that life is full of memories, and sometimes you want to create those memories. Like, “go big or go home.”
“I will not say that a loud marriage is synonymous with a wedding crashing. I think it all boils down to the two individuals involved. Like, what exactly do you want to do?
“I think it is a matter of personal opinion. What is your interpersonal relationship with your spouse or spouse-to-be?
“If all the noise in the world could not bring down all the big people and celebrities hat their marriages have lasted so long, then I think it’s a personal opinion, and the decision you make with your partner,” she said.
Weddings in Nigeria are becoming more expensive by the day. A few days ago, the wedding of celebrity fashion designer Veekee James created a massive buzz on social media. The designer was criticised for spending millions of naira to throw a lavish wedding amid economic difficulties in the country.
