Evidence Indicate Rape Cases in Tigray – Abiy Ahmed

Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed has confirmed that evidence have been found pointing to incidence of rape cases by the country’s military in Tigray.

Ahmed, in a question and answer session noted cases are still being investigated but promised that perpetrators will be brought to book.

Ethiopian military has a history of such abusive incidents in battles but promised to quell it through thorough investigation and justice.

He however added that majority of the allegations against the Ethiopian military force actions in Tigray were hyped and even, untrue.

Ethiopia launched a final offensive on its powerful northernmost region, Tigray after the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) attacked some state-owned properties.

The battle that ensued lasted weeks and led to more than 1m people fleeing for safety.

Abiy Ahmed said the TPLF has been decimated and are now flailing in his address to the parliament.

In another revelation, he admitted that Eritrean soldiers were involved in the battle in Tigray.

The United Nations has been investigating the roles played by Eritrea in the bloodshed and inhumanity cases recorded in Tigray.

With Ahmed’s confirmation, the leading individuals may face international criminal charges by the International Criminal Court, The Hague.
