Barely a month after his resignation as the coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Finidi George has joined Nigerian Premier League side Rivers United as technical manager.
Despite his controversial stint with the national side, Rivers United said they were excited about the former international joining their team and were optimistic he would bring his wealth of experience to bear.
”Finidi brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our team, having had a distinguished playing career spanning over fifteen years.”
”His impressive credentials include winning the Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles in 1994, the UEFA Champions League with Ajax in 1995, and the Nigeria Premier Football League with Enyimba International FC in 2023,” the club said on X.
Welcoming George, Dr Okey Kpalukwu, General Manager of Rivers United FC, stated: “We are delighted to have Finidi George join our team. His appointment marks a new chapter in our club’s history, and we are committed to working together to achieve success.”
During his brief stint as the national team boss, George was winless in the World Cup qualifiers, securing two draws. A shock loss against the Benin Republic led to fans asking for his sack.
George will be unveiled to fans at the Sharks Stadium on Thursday.
