Former Nigerian international footballer Tijani Babangida, has lost his young son after succumbing to injuries sustained in a tragic road accident. The accident also claimed the life of his brother, Ibrahim Babangida.
The incident occurred on Thursday, April 10, 2024, along the Zaria-Kaduna road, where Tijani, his wife, brother, son, and maid were involved in an accident.
Tijani’s younger brother, Ibrahim, lost his life instantly in the accident. Tijani, who serves as the president of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN), along with the other occupants of the vehicle, were rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
However, despite efforts to save him, Tijani’s young son eventually succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital. Additionally, it was reported that Tijani’s wife suffered severe facial injuries, resulting in the loss of one of her eyes.
A close family friend shared the heart-wrenching news, expressing deep sympathy for Tijani and his family during this immensely challenging time. He revealed the extent of the trauma Tijani is enduring, having lost both his younger brother and his beloved son in quick succession.
The friend also provided updates on the condition of the other individuals involved in the accident, including the maid, who sustained a leg fracture.
Currently, Tijani Babangida has been transferred to a hospital in Abuja, where he is scheduled to undergo surgery for his injured knee and other injuries sustained in the accident.
