Former France international Wissam Ben Yedder, aged 34, was handed a suspended two-year jail sentence on Tuesday for sexual assault after an incident involving a woman in September. Ben Yedder, a former captain and key striker for Monaco, met the woman while intoxicated and invited her into his car, where, according to the investigation, he proceeded with inappropriate conduct.
The woman filed a police complaint that evening, leading to Ben Yedder’s arrest. During his trial, he claimed not to remember the incident, citing alcohol as a factor and revealing he has since entered a rehab programme. Ben Yedder did not attend the sentencing.
Ben Yedder faces further legal issues, with upcoming cases including charges of psychological violence against his wife and an ongoing investigation into an accusation of rape from 2023. He has denied these allegations.
The seasoned striker, known for his time with Toulouse and Sevilla, joined Monaco in 2019, where he scored 118 goals in 201 matches before his contract ended. He also made 19 appearances and scored three goals for the French national team.
