Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga (rtd), a former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has been freed after enduring 56 days in captivity.
Tsiga was taken on February 5, 2025, from his hometown in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, along with nine other residents.
Even though his family paid a ransom, his captors retained him for several more weeks before finally releasing him.
There are varying reports about the ransom amount, with some sources alleging that N60 million was paid. However, reports suggest the actual figure was significantly more than that figure.

A relative shared that following the payment, the kidnappers remained unresponsive for a week before permitting Tsiga to speak with his family. Despite the abductors later asking for more money, no further payments were made.
Tsiga has ultimately been released and is said to be in good health. Reports indicate he is being transported to Abuja from Zamfara State.
A high-ranking military official confirmed his release, and family members expressed relief at his safe return.
