Explosion Rocks Rivers APC Secretariat Before Local Government Polls

Suspected arsonists are believed to have set off explosives at the Rivers State headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Port Harcourt.

The incident took place on Saturday morning, just hours before the state’s Local Government election.

Footage shared on social media shows the damage, which is thought to have been caused by dynamite, affecting the main gate, the security post of the APC secretariat, and parts of a nearby building.

Chief Tony Okocha, the State caretaker committee chairman of the main opposition party, confirmed the incident to LEADERSHIP.

Okocha accused supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of being behind the attack.

Okocha said: “At the wee hours of Saturday, pro-Fubara civilian soldiers detonated dynamites at our office.

“The second attempt to set it ablaze was foiled as the security at the gate quickly put out the fire.”

There has been no official confirmation of any arrests related to the attack at the APC secretariat in Port Harcourt at this time. Authorities are likely still investigating the incident, but further details regarding arrests or suspects have not yet been made public.
