Algeria has banned the exportation of foodstuffs such as sugar, vegetable oil, pasta, semolina and wheat derivatives.
Authorities in the North-African country also banned the exportation of frozen meat products.
After listening to a joint presentation by the Ministers of Agriculture and Trade on the President Tebboune “ordered the Government to ban the export of all consumer products imported by Algeria, such as sugar, pasta, oil, semolina and all wheat derivatives.”
In the same vein, President Tebboune directed the Minister of Justice to “develop a draft law criminalising the export of non-locally manufactured goods as an act of economic sabotage.”
In a recent development last week, the Egyptian government issued a decision of banning exports of some basic and strategic food staples for three months, in a move to preserve stocks of basic commodities amid the severe global crisis related to supply chain disruptions because of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
The commodities include wheat, beans, lentils, all kinds of flour, and pasta.
