The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has stated that the fire incident, which transpired early on Wednesday at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, has been successfully contained.

This announcement comes through an official statement issued by Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection in Abuja.

Yakubu-Funtua explained that at approximately 7:23 a.m. on the morning of the incident, a suspected electrical spark in the baggage hall ceiling triggered a smoke event reported at Terminal 1 of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos.

The source of the smoke was identified as a burning lithium inverter battery installation situated in the basement.
