Meta has announced that content creators in Nigeria and Ghana can now earn money on Facebook starting July 1, 2024.
The social media company has introduced two monetisation features: In-Stream Ads and Facebook Ads on Reels, allowing creators to make money from original videos and community engagement.
Eligible creators can start using these features immediately, provided they comply with Facebook’s Partner Monetisation Policies and Content Monetisation Policies, and are at least 18 years old.
For In-Stream Ads, creators need a minimum of 5,000 followers. These ads can appear before, during, or after videos, with different types like Pre-roll, Mid-roll, Image, and Post-roll Ads.
Ads on Facebook Reels will seamlessly integrate into original Reels, with creators earning based on their performance.
Meta emphasised that these features will support creators in telling their stories and connecting with others, enhancing the creative industry in Nigeria and Ghana.
This rollout follows an earlier visit by Meta’s President of Global Affairs, Sir Nick Clegg, to President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.
Clegg had promised to introduce monetisation features on Facebook and Instagram for Nigerian creators, thanking Tinubu for facilitating the landing of a Meta-backed deep-sea cable in Nigeria.
President Tinubu encouraged Meta to invest more in Nigeria, especially in its youth.
