A Gaza hostages campaign group has urged an investigation into the alleged leak of sensitive documents by a former aide to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. They argue the suspected breach could have hindered efforts to free hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.
Eliezer Feldstein, a former Netanyahu aide, was detained along with three others for allegedly leaking documents to foreign media. The Hostages and Missing Families Forum, which represents most families of the 97 remaining hostages, said in a statement that such actions endanger the hostages and risk sabotaging their release.
“The (hostage) families demand an investigation against all those suspected of sabotage and undermining state security,” the forum asserted, expressing deep mistrust over this leak and calling it a severe blow to the remaining trust between the government and its citizens.
Critics have accused Netanyahu of delaying truce talks, claiming his actions may be aimed at prolonging the conflict to maintain support from far-right coalition members. Israel’s security agency Shin Bet and the military began investigating the leak in September after classified military information appeared in The Jewish Chronicle and Germany’s Bild, with details reportedly endangering the release strategy for hostages.
Late Monday, Netanyahu also requested the attorney general probe additional leaks from cabinet meetings, calling the spread of sensitive information “a flood” that jeopardizes state security during wartime.
