Seven people have been killed in their sleep after a residential building under construction collapsed next door in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital.
Tragedy struck on Wednesday at around 05:00 local time in Addis Ketema, one of the busiest districts in Addis Ababa.
A spokesperson for the local authorities, Nigatu Mamo said the deceased include children aged four, 11 and 12.
“The victims lost their lives due to lack of air,” Mamo added.
There are indications that the police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse.
This is the first time, such an incident Is happening since 2022 when at least six people died and seven others were injured after a building fell in Merkato, one of Africa’s biggest open markets.
