Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has declared his support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s bid for a second term, citing the governor’s impressive performance and advocating for continuity in governance.
Speaking at a meeting and end-of-year gathering of All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders across Ekiti’s 16 local government areas, held at his Isan Ekiti country home, Fayemi praised Oyebanji’s achievements but clarified that his endorsement does not preclude others from contesting the party’s governorship ticket.
“I am a democrat, and I cannot discourage anyone from vying for the party’s ticket. However, as for me and my family, we are fully behind Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s second term in office,” Fayemi said.
He added, “Governor Oyebanji is an Omoluabi who has delivered outstanding governance over the past two years. Supporting him ensures the people of Ekiti will continue to enjoy good governance until 2030.”
Fayemi’s endorsement received enthusiastic applause from the over 5,000 APC leaders present.
Governor Oyebanji, expressing gratitude to Fayemi and other party leaders, said, “I am deeply humbled by this open declaration from my boss, mentor, and benefactor. I promise to uphold the trust placed in me and continue delivering programmes and policies that bring joy to our people.”
Oyebanji also highlighted his administration’s success in attracting members from other political parties and maintaining unity within the APC.
The event was attended by prominent leaders, including Deputy Governor Chief Monisade Afuye, Acting State APC Chairman Sola Elesin, Speaker of the House of Assembly Adeoye Aribasoye, and various local and state officials, who lauded Oyebanji’s administration for redefining governance and service delivery in Ekiti.
