An animal rights activist on the FBI’s most wanted terrorist list, who had evaded authorities for over two decades, has been arrested in Wales, the FBI confirmed on Tuesday.
Daniel Andreas San Diego, 46, was apprehended on Monday in connection with two 2003 pipe bombings in California. The attacks targeted a biotechnology company and a nutritional products firm in the San Francisco area.
FBI Director Christopher Wray hailed the arrest, stating, “Daniel San Diego’s arrest after more than 20 years as a fugitive for two bombings in the San Francisco area shows that no matter how long it takes, the FBI will find you and hold you accountable.”
San Diego was indicted in 2004 and fled, becoming a fugitive for nearly 20 years. He was added to the FBI’s most wanted terrorist list in 2009, with a $250,000 reward for information leading to his capture.
British authorities collaborated with the FBI to secure San Diego’s arrest. The UK’s National Crime Agency has confirmed that he now faces extradition to the United States, where he will stand trial for the bombings.
The FBI has stressed that while peaceful protest is a right, acts of violence and destruction are not acceptable methods of expressing dissent.
