FCT Minister Pledges Completion of Abandoned Projects Across Area Councils

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, has committed to completing all abandoned projects in the six Area Councils of the territory. He made this commitment while inaugurating a five-kilometre dual carriageway in Kuje Area Council.

Wike emphasised the government’s commitment to addressing abandoned projects, considering them a continuity of public funds. He stated, “Any project that was awarded before now, and abandoned, we have to go back to those projects, because government is a continuum. It is public money, so we cannot allow government money to be wasted simply because we were not the one that awarded it, no.”

The inaugurated five-kilometer road in Kuje Area Council is part of the current administration’s efforts to bring development to rural communities, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda. Wike clarified that such developmental initiatives are not politically driven but are essential for good governance and the welfare of the people.

“We will continue with those projects since it will have a positive impact on the lives of our people. That is what is important to us, and we are going to do it.”

He also revealed plans for the FCT Administration to embark on the total renovation of at least 25 schools and the completion of abandoned hospital projects in the coming weeks. Wike emphasised a comprehensive approach, addressing not only roads but also schools and hospitals that have been left incomplete.

The Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, stressed the significance of rural road infrastructure in supporting rural economies, creating employment opportunities, and stimulating local economies. She highlighted the importance of connecting rural producers to markets, enabling them to sell their goods at fair prices and access essential services.

Local leaders, including the Chairman of the Kuje Area Council, Abdullahi Sabo, and the Gomo of Kuje, Alhaji Haruna Jibrin, expressed gratitude for the commitment to development. The completion of the dual carriageway in Kuje is expected to address challenges like perennial flooding and drainage overflow during the rainy season.

The event marked a significant step in prioritising rural development, and the FCT Minister reiterated the government’s dedication to bringing positive change to all area councils, irrespective of political affiliations.
