The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday reassured residents of Kwali Area Council of his commitment to fulfilling promises made to the community.
Addressing an enthusiastic crowd shortly before commissioning a newly constructed road in the area, Wike highlighted the importance of keeping promises and fostering mutual support between leaders and citizens.
“Kwali people, are you happy? Are you happy with Mr. President? You are happy with Mr. President?” Wike said to the cheering crowd. “Mr President (Bola Ahmed Tinubu) said, anything you want, you should ask me, and we will do it for you.”
The Minister recounted a stakeholder meeting held last year where the need for the road was identified as a pressing concern. He expressed gratitude for being able to deliver on the project, calling it a testament to the administration’s dedication to addressing the needs of the people.
“I thank God Almighty that we made that promise, and today is a promise made, a promise fulfilled. Agreement is agreement, you do for me, I do for you,” Wike added.
During the event, Danladi Chiya, Chairman of the FCT chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), appreciated Wike’s leadership and commitment to development. He then made an emotional appeal for the construction of Ebo Bridge, a critical infrastructure project in the area.
“There is just one bridge, called Ebo Bridge, that if you can do it for me, I will not even ask you for another road again, sir,” Chiya said, emphasising the importance of the project to the community.
In response, Wike assured the residents that the bridge would be constructed.
“Mr. ALGON Chairman, because you have led your people well, because you have supported this administration, because your people are happy with you, let me tell you, that bridge will be done,” Wike affirmed, drawing applause from the audience.
Chiya, upon hearing the Minister’s promise to construct the much-needed Ebo Bridge, expressed his appreciation by falling facedown on the ground.
His dramatic gesture of thanks elicited loud cheers and applause from the enthusiastic audience, further heightening the celebratory atmosphere.
