Omoleye Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), activist, and leader of the #FearlessInOctober movement, has reaffirmed his commitment to the protest on October 1. He stated that this protest is just one of many demonstrations aimed at bringing down the regime of hardship.
He said, “We’ve come today as a symbolic effort to protest. This is just one of the series of revolts in this country that will lead to the downfall of the regime of hardship that came.
“Even before 2023, we were promised that in our lifetime we will not tolerate slavery, that we will not co-habit corrupt people and that we shall not be sentenced to minimum wage while some people are earning maximum wage.
“And that in our lifetime, we cannot be governed by the same people that our parents told us not to be like when we grow up. They are the drug dealers, the fraudsters, and all the deceivers in this country.
” I am glad that most importantly, I am reunited with my family members today.”
Sowore discussed the EndBadGovernance demonstration that lasted for ten days in August, highlighting that the October 1 protest marks the start of additional protests in the future.
“Today is October 1, this is the beginning of our struggle to get real independence. We want to get independence from our own internal colonisers. Our brothers in agbada, police uniform, army uniform, amotekun, and all of them- we want to save them as well because they need liberation as much as we all do.
“I have never heard that the police have a different market where they buy food stuff or a different filling station where they buy petrol.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we are here to prove that resilience matters.”
